Labor Day is fast approaching which means that back-to-school madness is right around the corner. Before you start thinking about school supplies, bus schedules and back-to-school shopping, take some time to enjoy these last few weeks of summer. Check out our list of last minute, family-friendly things to do in Burnsville!

  1. Get in a round of golf (or take some time to learn), at Burnsville’s own Birnamwood Public Golf Course.
  2. Hit up Grand Slam in Burnsville for some laser tagging, trampolining, car bumping, or mini golfing fun.
  3. Grab your lunch, swimsuits and dancing shoes and head to Nicollet Commons Park for the last Rockin’ Lunch Hour of the season on August 13th – featuring the Splatter Sisters.
  4. Refresh your skating skills at Skateville Family Roller Skating Center.
  5. Beat the heat and hit up the brand new splash pad at the Lion’s Playground in Cliff Fen Park, or check out the water features at Nicollet Commons Park in the Heart of the City.
  6. Get cultural at the Ames Center Art Gallery’s current exhibition, “Cultural Perspectives Worldly Treasures” running through August 9th…then check out “Outdoor Painters of Minnesota” starting August 13th. This gallery is free and open to the public!
  7. Catch the last two “Flicks on the Bricks” movies in the park (tomorrow and Aug. 21) at Nicollet Commons Park – free family fun!
  8. Paint a masterpiece with family & friends at Cheers Pablo in Burnsville.
  9. Enjoy the lake at Crystal Beach in Burnsville. Swim, picnic, play volleyball, canoe or enjoy the concession stand. Open through August!
  10. Beat the crowds (and the heat) and get a jumpstart on your school shopping at the 125-store Burnsville Center, or one of Burnsville’s amazing local retailers like Shine Boutique and Ficus and Fig.
  11. Dine al fresco (before it’s too late) at some of Burnsville’s most popular restaurants for outdoor dining like Porter Creek Hardwood Grill, the Mediterranean Cruise Café or Jensen’s Café! For a complete list of restaurants click here.
  12. Walk, bike or hike at one of Burnsville’s 76+ parks and 20 miles of trail.
  13. Rock out with Moody Blues frontman,  Justin Hayward, at the Ames Center September 4th.
  14. Turn up the heat on your end-of-summer fun at the annual Burnsville Fire Muster September 8th-12th and enjoy activities, entertainment, food and of course, the combined community and fire muster parade that started it all! See you there!
