We’ve Been Busy!

2015: A Year in Review

What has the BCVB done for you lately?

Phew! It was very busy year here at the Burnsville Convention & Visitors Bureau (BCVB). Showing off all that our fair city of Burnsville has to offer keeps us darn busy. If you’re not familiar with who we are or what we do at the BCVB, read on. You’ll learn about some the ways that we support the City and promote its appeal to potential travelers and visitors.

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!

In January, Burnsville hosted the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival for Region 5. Over 1500 students and professors from Midwest area colleges stayed at Burnsville hotels, attended workshops and performed at the Ames Center and patronized Burnsville area shopping and dining establishments over a week-long period. We will be welcoming this group back to Burnsville once again this month, January 17-23, 2016.

TAKING IT ON THE ROAD

Amie2In January we attended the American Bus Association Marketplace with Explore Minnesota Tourism; one of the biggest shows of the year for the group tour industry. We were able to promote Burnsville to thousands of tour operators and vendors. We also got to give attendees a little taste of Minnesota by serving up some delicious Spam

In February, we attended the 2015 Duluth Boat, Sports, Travel & RV Show promoting Burnsville to thousands of attendees and personally visiting with over 400 people as well as the 2015 Explore Minnesota Tourism Conference in Saint Paul. This annual event gives us a “sneak peek” at what is Winnipegplanned for the Explore Minnesota Tourism advertising in the coming year. It is a must for anyone in the tourism industry and Burnsville is always represented.

In April, we hit the road yet again. This time we hopped on a bus bound for Winnipeg, Manitoba in Canada for a sales mission with Explore Minnesota Tourism. This sales mission gave us the chance to meet with Canadian tour operators, travel agents, travel media and representatives from the Canadian Automobile Association.

In September our very own community was featured on the hit new series The Minnesota Traveler, an original television series airing on Fox Sports North and Fox Sports Wisconsin, focusing on tourist attractions, destinations, entertainment, events, activities, restaurants, shopping and lodging in Minnesota. Host Jennifer Mergen and her crew were in Burnsville throughout the year filming multiple segments – from the slopes of Buck Hill to the tables of Mediterranean Cruise – and many places in between! Based on this photo, can you guess where we’re headed next year??

HALLOWEEN FEST

Halloween Fest 2015In October, BCVB staff volunteered to donate and pass out candy at the City of Burnsville annual Halloween Fest in October. We love getting in the spirit of things by dressing up and adding our own festive flair to our booth! We pass out candy, BCVB pens and Ticket to Experience Burnsville coupon pages to attendees as well. It’s a spooktacular time! Be sure to join us this year on October 28, 2016 for next year’s festival!

HERE TO STAY

IMG_8505_HDRMaintaining a close working relationships with the hoteliers in our community is of utmost important to us. To that end, we hold a meeting with those from our nine lodging properties on a bi-monthly basis to give them time to network with their peers, keep up to date at what’s happening at the BCVB and the City, and always try to provide an educational opportunity or speaker to aid in growth and development.
